Uwazi na Uwajibikaji

In Kenya, persistent mismanagement of public resources, opacity in governance processes, and systemic corruption continue to hinder equitable development, particularly at the grassroots level.

Despite progressive constitutional provisions guaranteeing access to information and citizen participation, community priorities are often overlooked, and public accountability remains weak.

Citizens, especially youth, women and persons with disabilities are largely excluded from meaningful engagement in governance and budgetary processes. Inadequate civic education, limited access to public data, information, and poor use of civic technology contribute to this exclusion. Consequently, substandard or stalled development projects are common-place, while avenues for redress and accountability remain underutilized.

The Uwazi na Uwajibikaji Project seeks to transform this dynamic by enabling established youth-led hubs to act as proactive community-based change agents to promote transparency, track public expenditure, and advocate for responsive governance using innovative civic technology, enhanced and coordinated online and offline campaigns, and community organizing
